Look Who Just Turned TWO!

We celebrated Alex's 2nd birthday yesterday! Here he is the night before, getting ready to party!
It turned out to be a beautiful sunny day, so we were able to do most of it in the backyard. It has been raining off and on the last couple of weeks, but the sun decided to shine for Alex's birthday.

He enjoyed having his friends over...Dominic, Annie, Mathias, and Gracie, too! Gramsi (aka Zi-Zi or Rochelle), Aunt Molly, and Aunt Sari came too. And Grandpa Dan (Papa) and Paul both snuck away from work on their lunch breaks. It was mostly a glorified play-date, but the kids did enjoy a macaroni and hot dog lunch and some other treats.

They all look so grown up when they sit at a table just their size.

Alex ate all of his food except the veggies (of course) and then proceeded to help Annie and Mathias polish off their food. To be fair, they did get up and leave their plates unattended. :)
Singing to the birthday boy! Dominic was so excited that he blew out all of the candles before we finished singing, so we relight them and Alex blew out a few as well. It was really funny. I guess that is what I get for trying to out-smart the kids by putting extra candles in the cake. I thought they (especially the 2-year-olds) would want to help blow out the candles. But, alas, I didn't factor in Dominic's incredible set of lungs! haha!

As you may have noticed, we had a little Elmo theme going on. I made these Elmo cupcakes myself, and they turned out pretty cute, even if the noses looked a bit like beaks.
If you ask any of the kids what they were they just stared at me blankly...so maybe they didn't really look like Elmo after all. Oh well, they tasted good!

Alex has been practicing saying Happy Birthday for the past couple of months and he usually answers the question of "How old are you?" on his own, but I had to prompt him a bit for the sake of getting it on video. :)

Alex loved all of his presents. This one is technically from Aunt Brooke. She gave it to us with some other Little People stuff when she moved back in February, so I stored it in the garage for his birthday. Before the party he was helping me wrap his presents and every time I would cover something up with the wrapping paper he would get all worried and say, "Uh-oh, where'd it go?"
Dominic and Auntie Molly gave him a cool Toy Story thermos and a tiger! He thinks they are really cool, and especially loves the thermos. Zi-Zi filled it up for him, so he could use it right away, and today when I went to wash it I opened it up and what did I find, but the soggy instructions floating there in the water. haha!

Mathias and Annie got him a cool ball! He tried to go off and play with it right after he opened it, but he still had a few more gifts to unwrap. For the record, he is taking a nap with it right now. :)

Gramsi (Zi-Zi to Alex) got him this really cool T-ball set. All of the kids loved it, of course. Right after this picture was taken, Alex hit the ball and Annie and Mathias tackled it and were trying to wrestle it from each other. It was pretty exciting. Zi-Zi hit a really good after Christmas sale and also got him a cool Mr. Potato Head set. It came with five different sets of parts! He was playing with it later that night and promptly put on Mrs. Potato Heads diva glasses....he has a glasses fetish and is always "borrowing" glasses as he comes across them, and especially loves to wear Mr. or Mrs. Potato head glasses. Even though they barely fit his face.

And, the pinata! Alex has been drooling over the pinatas at Food 4 Less for the last six months. They are pretty cheap ($5.99), so I had to get him one. He picked out a Rocket. You'll notice in the video that he was really excited about hitting it until Daddy made it blast off in the air. It gave him quite a surprise and he didn't want to touch it after that.
Mathias takes a swing! He thought it was pretty cool and really wanted to help Paul with the rope.
Annie used her kung-fu moves on it, but it was really tough to crack.
Dominic was super-excited for his turn and took it quite seriously.

But, none of the kids could break it, and they soon lost interest, so here is Paul with the final blow that cracked it in half.

We had another little party that night after dinner with just our family. Alex loved blowing out all of his candles again!

He opened this present from Zi-Zi and thought it was pretty cool.

But the present that topped his day off was the one that Daddy picked out for him...

...as you will see in this video!

I did pretty good, too. I found this Leap Frog farm animal matching game for $5.00 used! He loves to dance to the music and put the animals together.

I can't believe my little boy is already two years old! And, he his going to be a big brother in six months (more about this later)! My how time flies by! Happy Birthday Alex! We love you!
